Fixed braces

Today fixed braces are used in a very wide age range of patients. The youngest patients wearing fixed braces are about ten years old, while the upper limit almost does not exist. Fixed braces therapy depends exclusively on the orthodontist, so the success of therapy is certain. Unlike with removable braces, patients cannot remove them, thus not affecting the course of therapy. Fixed braces can be traditional (external) and lingual (internal).

Lingual fixed braces are completely invisible as they are located on the inner side of teeth.

Traditional fixed braces can be metal (grey) and aesthetic (white, transparent)

Fixed braces are the most natural way to solve the problem of misaligned teeth position and misaligned jaw. The duration of fixed braces therapy is one of the most common questions of our patients and it is highly individual. Some patients will correct their teeth position in just a few months and completely solve the problem, while others will wear braces for several years. It all depends on the type and severity of the problem. There are no two identical men, hence no two completely identical irregularities in patients.

Instead of elastic bands, self-ligating fixed braces use a built-in clip to connect the archwire and brackets, thus reducing friction and accelerating therapy. The orthodontist decides on whether you are a candidate for self-ligating fixed braces at the very examination.

Environmental factors, UV radiation and pollution affect the natural ageing process, thus also affecting the level of hyaluronic acid that decreases with age. Hyaluronic acid is necessary for maintaining moisture, elasticity and firmness of the skin. With the decrease in its level, the skin loses its elasticity, becomes drier and thinner. These changes lead to the appearance of lines and wrinkles on our skin.

Dental-Implants-chattanooga-tnDental implant represents a replacement for the lost tooth that is screwed into the jaw bone to grow with it over time. It is made of titanium and is ideal for patients who maintain good oral hygiene but have lost one or more teeth for various reasons (trauma, periodontitis, unsuccessful treatment).

The advantage of dental implants is reflected in that if one tooth is missing, grinding of neighbouring teeth necessary for creating a bridge and replacing empty space is avoided. This saves natural teeth, and aesthetic deficiency is compensated. It is also the only possibility of obtaining a fixed prosthetic work in patients with complete toothlessness. Such patients do not need to wear full dentures anymore, which are sometimes very difficult to wear and accept, especially if the conditions for making dentures are poor.

Oral surgery is the field of dentistry, and the most common oral surgery procedures include wisdom tooth removal, complicated removal of impacted and retained canine or wisdom tooth, root resection, extraction of remnant and broken teeth roots. Oral surgery also includes the reconstruction of aesthetic and functional disorders of the oral cavity with pre-prosthetic and pre-implant procedures.

Good cooperation between oral surgeons and other dentistry specialists is extremely important since the success of the therapy depends on it. During the orthodontic treatment, it is sometimes necessary to remove some healthy teeth, whether milk or permanent, in order to make the therapy complete.

The most frequent cause of patients’ visiting the dentist is pain. The causes of tooth pain (toothache) are numerous and different. Small enamel cracks, its demineralization, bare tooth neck due to gums withdrawal, can lead to pain when taking food and water. Then, a tooth that is overloaded for being in premature contact with teeth from the opposite jaw or is a carrier of some prosthetic work, can yield painful symptoms.

It is important to respond immediately and timely to provoked and short-lived pain events in order to prevent irreversible changes in dental pulp.

Pain therapy varies and depends on the cause.

Traumas are a frequent cause of damage to dental tissues and their supporting apparatus which impairs the functions of chewing, speech and the aesthetic appearance of the patient. Adopting an adequate therapeutic plan is essential for achieving complete rehabilitation of oral tissues. These conditions require professional treatment in the shortest time in order to preserve teeth vitality, stop bleeding and treat the soft tissues wounds. If possible, the tooth that has fallen out should be placed in saline solution, milk or a wet wipe and brought to the office as soon as possible to try reimplantation (returning the tooth to its place).

Tooth extraction

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its base in the bone. If the tooth was broken or damaged by caries, your dentist will try to repair it by filling, crown or using some other method. Sometimes the tooth is so damaged that it cannot be repaired. This is the most common reason for extracting teeth.

Wisdom teeth, also called third molars, often get extracted before or after they appear. They usually grow in the late teen age or in the early twenties. These teeth are often blocked in the jaw and cannot come up. Because of this, they have to be surgically removed as they cause pain, swelling, and gum irritation.
